Computer Generated Models for H&M

H&M’s New Lingerie Models Are Computer-Generated!

The models posing for H&M’s new holiday lingerie campaign are totally unreal. And I mean it literally!

H&M PR officer, Håcan Andersson, confirms that their new lingerie-clad bodies are “completely virtual“. The company actually shot real models for the campaign but only to use their faces and superimpose them on the virtual body form.

I personally cannot believe this. H&M says “It’s not about ideals or to show off a perfect body… we are doing this to show off the garments,” – Then can you explain why you use real models for the faces? I mean if all you care about is to show off the clothes, just use fake mannequins like the one you see on every store window! Or do not use heads at all so customers are not confused with what’s real or not! I believe the conveyed message would then be clearer for everyone.

In my opinion, if H&M’s will is not to “show off a perfect body” then why don’t they use this amazing technology and allow customers to adapt the “virtual models” to their own shape? You could drag and drop clothing onto your actual body form! Wouldn’t that be better to “show off the garments“?

What do you think of H&M’s Strategy?
